Heavy vehicles rely on brakes and engine braking to maintain speed as they travel down hills. Hill Descent Monitoring (HDM) is being introduced to monitor safe practices along steep gradients or long descents and may be a condition of access for certain routes. Transport Compliance Services (TCS), a subsidiary of MTData, has been certified as a provider of HDM. The certification is awarded by Transport Certification Australia (TCA), a government body responsible for providing assurance services for transport technologies.
HDM may be applied by regulatory bodies, however, road managers may also want access to the application to assess whether the driver has adequately performed their safety checks. This new application provides another opportunity for TCS and MTData customers to remain at the leading edge of road safety and compliance.
