MTData’s Electronic Work Diary (EWD) is now approved by the NHVR. The solution is available for use as an official record for heavy vehicle driver work and rest hours from 18 January 2021.

An EWD is a digital or electronic system used to record work and rest times of heavy vehicle drivers, which can be used as an alternative to Written Work Diaries.

Drivers can record their work and rest hours by pressing a button on the Talon driver screen instead of manually calculating various time periods on multiple sheets of paper, saving time for both drivers and administration staff.

The approved EWD solution will allow transport operators to reduce breaches and ensure compliance with fatigue laws by removing guesswork and minimising inaccurate data. The data is tracked in real-time rather than days later after drivers submit their written papers.

It is important to note that drivers must continue to carry their Written Work Diary through a transition period, to ensure that they comply with the requirement of carrying 28 days of records.

The addition of an approved EWD solution is a great addition to MTData’s range of compliance certified solutions including Intelligent Access Program, On-Board Mass, Road Infrastructure Management and Hill Decent Monitoring.

The approval of MTData’s EWD solution is another step in the right direction to help build a safer transport industry.
